Natural History: The Black Damsel is normally found on coastal fringing lagoons and outer reef faces. Juveniles are common among Acropora millepora. Adults may hover over select Tridacna clams or soft corals. While juveniles are solitary, adults are generally observed in pairs or small loose groups.
Husbandry: The juvenile Black Damsel is an attractive gold over yellow color, but it loses its color as an adult. This fish is reported to be very aggressive as an adult and should only be housed with other aggressive fish. It should not be housed with soft corals; it may feed on their polyps.
