Natural History: The Harbor Goby is found in protected reef zones with fine sandy bottoms. It is symbiotic with pistol (Alpheus) shrimp. The goby sits atop the burrow dug by the shrimp. If danger approaches, the goby notifies the shrimp with its tail and both recede into the burrow.
Husbandry: The Harbor Goby is a burrower and fine sand should provided to satisfy its need to dig. It can be territorial with other harbor gobies but otherwise is a peaceful community fish.
