General Information: There are 4 genera and 18 species of Bigeyes. They all have large eyes and very large mouths. They has a characteristic continuous dorsal fin and large pelvic fins. They have modified cycloid scales and long strong fin spines.
Diet: These fish feed on invertebrates, small fish, and large plankton species.
Final Note: The Bigeyes can undergo rapid color changes from reds to blotchy silvers to match their environment. They also have a unique reflective layer over their eyes (tapetum lucidum) that allows them to see in low light conditions but also gives them "eyeshine".
