| |
|
Taxonomy:
Perciformes,
Dottyback
(Pseudochromidae)
General Information: The dottybacks include about 100 species in more than 16 genera. They are often brightly colored and exhibit sexual dimorphism. Most are smaller than 4 inches in length - the largest reaches over 12 inches. They have 3 or less dorsal spines and an incomplete lateral line.
Diet: Most species feed on small crustaceans and worms.
Final Note: Generally there can be only one dottyback per aquarium. Larger specimens will harrass smaller fishes. Live rock with plentiful hiding places is recommended for any aquarium housing a dottyback and other fishes.
