Long Tentacle Anemone - Purple (Macrodactyla doreensis)
Family: Actiniidae (Anemones)
Habitat: reef areas with sediment bottom and low to moderate water flow
Light: High Water Flow: Low Space: 100+ gal.
Reef Safe: Yes Care Level: Moderate Temperament: Caution
Diet: fish, crustaceans
Natural History: Long Tentacle Anemone buries its oral disk flat on the surface of sediment, and allows its tentacles to radiate upward into the water.
Husbandry: Macrodactyla is harmful to fishes and some caution should be in order when placing in an aquarium. It can also be harmful to corals but it can be easily separated because of its preference for living in sand. Thrives best under bright light, likely because it is a zooxanthellate. Clownfish will use this anemone as a host species. All anemones are potential predators of smaller fish, so caution must be advised in a community aquarium.
